I’m a Virginia native who somewhat randomly made her way to Los Angeles, just like your typical LA transplant. I came here for grad school (Fight On! ✌🏾) and stayed for the weather, guac, & palm trees.
In a nutshell: I'm a Trojan (USC) + Double Hoo (UVAx2) with a background in systems engineering, consulting, nonprofit management and a little web development on the side. Currently, I do user experience (UX) research on the Growth Team at Figma. Prior to my work at Figma, I served as the Director of UX for Emma Beauty, a small beauty tech startup based in Southern California.
I'm open to a good collab, so if you sense any synergy — reach out!
I have a special place in my heart for social good, mental health awareness, and education. I'm also currently looking to join the board of an organization dedicated to creating opportunities to marginalized groups in tech. Outside of trying to save the world, I enjoy archery (really, anything that lets me work with my hands), hiking, random creative projects that have nothing to do with work, learning how to play the violin, reading, traveling, and teaching others about UX via my YouTube channel and podcast, Unpacked Angles.
I'm also a huge foodie, hip hop & heavy metal lover 🤘🏾, a natural hair product evangelist, and am always down for a dope Netflix binge. (My feed is full of anime, K-dramas, & wild, futuristic AI SciFi flicks. All recs are welcome.)
You can catch me on Clubhouse (@nannearl) talking about UX things. I also have a love/hate relationship with Twitter but I'm on there for now... @nannearl_ — you know what to do. Send memes. 😎
Stephen King is my favorite author but there are plenty of books that interest me 🤓. Here are a few faves (in no particular order):
"...You take the red pill, you stay in Wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes."
